When calls for “nuance” are used to silence solidarity
Solidarity with Palestinians has been met with disregard and accusations of a “lack of nuance” within many Northern European academic institutions.

What role do universities play in geopolitical and humanitarian crises? The genocide in Palestine has been met with silence and indifference from higher education institutions. Faculty and student activism has been either ignored, or openly suppressed and punished by university leadership. Still, students, researchers and faculty members continue to participate in pedagogical and activist practices to learn about and contest the ongoing settler colonial violence in Palestine, often beyond the usual institutional and geopolitical boundaries. This collection of articles brings together diverse reflections on different types of pedagogical and activist practices through the authors’ own experiences. By bringing different viewpoints into conversation, the series points towards the possibility and importance of solidarity and collaboration across different positions and communities.
